Instant payments
How to read this: SEPA Instant adoption is the mart’s share of all credit transfers by number, not the ECB’s separate SCT Inst share of SEPA transfers. National instant schemes outside SEPA Instant are excluded. These observations do not establish regulatory compliance or causation.
The Instant Payments Regulation (EU) 2024/886 introduced phased receipt and sending obligations in the euro area during 2025, with later deadlines and exceptions for some providers. H2 includes the main October sending deadline, but this report does not attribute changes to the regulation. ECB regulation context and milestones.

Cards, contactless & mobile
How to read this: Card payments are counted on the issuer side, wherever the card is used. EU-wide issuers can make Lithuania and Luxembourg look unusually large. Contactless and mobile are overlapping classifications and must not be added together.
Card payments (issuer side)
ECB published value, as supplied by the mart. Counted on the card issuer side: payments with cards issued by payment service providers in the country, wherever the card is used. Countries that license EU-wide card issuers (for example Lithuania and Luxembourg) therefore show far more card payments than their population makes.

Cash vs cards
How to read this: Cash withdrawals are not cash purchases. Withdrawals per card payment measure withdrawal activity relative to card use, not cash’s share of spending. Per-inhabitant card figures are published by the ECB, not calculated here.

Card payments per inhabitant (ECB)
ECB published value, as supplied by the mart. Counted on the card issuer side: payments with cards issued by payment service providers in the country, wherever the card is used. Countries that license EU-wide card issuers (for example Lithuania and Luxembourg) therefore show far more card payments than their population makes.

Fraud, remote payments & authentication
How to read this: Fraud rates are basis points of transaction value, not the probability that a payment is fraudulent; higher is not better. Remote and SCA shares describe payment activity, not fraud rates within those groups. Withheld country and aggregate values must not be reconstructed from other rows.
Publication limits: this captured mart does not supply remote/non-remote or SCA/non-SCA fraud-rate definitions, or a country PISP fraud metric. It therefore cannot establish those rates or SCA’s effect on fraud. Missing inputs indicate that the exact ECB country/period series is not available in the mart; that is not proof that the ECB publishes no related statistics elsewhere. The ECB publishes no total across fraud-loss bearers in the mart’s source model, so no loss shares are inferred.
Card payment fraud rate (issuer side)
Share or rate supplied by the mart; derived by Scrolld from ECB inputs. Counted on the card issuer side: payments with cards issued by payment service providers in the country, wherever the card is used. Countries that license EU-wide card issuers (for example Lithuania and Luxembourg) therefore show far more card payments than their population makes.
H2 country coverage: 20 published country ranks in the mart. This ranking covers those reporters only; higher is not necessarily better.

Cross-border payments
How to read this: Credit-transfer counterparty location and card-terminal location are different geographic concepts. Abroad is not a measure of cross-border e-commerce or customer nationality. Failed geographic additivity checks withhold affected shares.
Infrastructure: terminals & ATMs
How to read this: Terminal and ATM counts are reported infrastructure, not payment flows or a measure of travel distance to cash. Population-normalised figures are used only where the mart publishes them. No annual or quarterly value is relabelled as a half-year.
POS terminals
ECB published value, as supplied by the mart. Counts as published by the ECB; providers and terminals are counted where they are resident, not where they are used.
H2 country coverage: 2 published country ranks in the mart. This ranking covers those reporters only; higher is not necessarily better.

Methods & sources
Observation cutoff: (2025-H2; provisional in this captured release). Comparison period: 2025-H1.
Fixed mart build: pay-20261001T151118-9939dc2e. Build completed: . Public API retrieved: .
Download this edition’s captured data (JSON). The snapshot preserves the public mart response and each selected metric’s H1 and H2 responses, including input keys, values, ranks and withholding reasons. Every response must carry the fixed build ID. Later releases are excluded. The source API serves the current build; its live links are not an archive of this edition.
Scrolld generates the findings deterministically. Tables and findings use the mart’s published values and country ranks. The only new numeric comparisons are subtraction of two published values: H2 minus H1, or euro area minus EU. Percentage shares use percentage-point changes, not percentage growth. Largest-change findings compare absolute differences within one metric over countries with both periods. Ties are retained and ordered by area code. Values are rounded for display; small nonzero values are labelled below the display precision.
EU (B0) and euro area (U2) are the ECB’s own aggregates, always unranked. Countries and instruments are never summed. Absent values are never zero, carried forward or reconstructed. Withheld values retain the mart’s exact reason. Country ranks are highest-value-first, not quality scores; coverage can differ by metric and period.
Build-wide additivity checks: 1222 passed; 138 failed. Build-wide metric observations: 8863 published; 879 withheld. These are mart-reported counts across the entire build, not counts of this report’s tables. Failed required checks withhold affected derived values; missing inputs and zero denominators can also cause withholding.
